Finished :)

Front Page

Back Page

I'm really happy how it turned out :D

Piecing it all together...

Final Piece :) ... First off, I covered the sheet of paper in glue and stuck on pages from an old book..

Then I painted on the tube lines on to the sheet paper back and front. The front I used the London tube map and I used the French tube line.

This is the front

This is the back.
Then came the placing on of the images. When I got to this part I realised I never printed out the Queen, so Im afraid London has only one image. I don't know how I forgot this. I stuck them on with PVA glue and I let them dry.

I used the Georgia font for 'Facts', I copied it on using water colour inks and I wrote on the actual facts in my own writing. I printed out the cities font in Georgia 72 and I glued them on to the sheet. I wanted it to look like they were stops on the line.

On the front side I traced out the name of the Cities again and painted them in Black. I also did the cover the same way.

Finished Piece..

Font

I am going to stick with the Georgia Font. I think it works well with the book. Font size is 72 and for the facts it is 48.

Facts

These are the facts I am going to use in the book. I am going to have them on the back of the sheet. I tried to pick out quirky quotes, ones that are really interesting and things that you would probably not know.

New York is also referred to as the Big Apple, a term coined by musicians meaning to play the big time.
New York was the first state to require license plates on cars.

A resident of Sydney is known as a Sydneysider.
Sydney Harbour Bridge takes three hours to climb.

London is the biggest city in Europe.
London was the first city in the world to have and underground railway, which is known as the tube.

It took 182 years to build the Notre Dame de Paris.
Paris is also known as the capital of Romance.

The Phoenix Park is the largest city park in Europe and it is the 2nd largest in the world.
10 million pints of Guinness are produced daily around the world.

Today I inked up the perspex. If you can get your hands on a set of disposable gloves for the inking process, use them. I firstly cover the perspex in ink. I then got some scrim and I careful started to rub it off, when the perspex started to come clear again I used newsprint in a circular motion and I removed the rest of the ink on the front and back of the perspex until it was clear again. I gave around the edges a quick wipe with tissues.

ready to be printed

You are to have your hands clean when you are handling the wet print paper.  I placed news print down on the print press, I placed my images on the newsprint and then the inking paper on top of the images, I put more newsprint on top of this. This is to protect the blanket. I placed the blanket over them and I put it through the press. I was very happy with the finished product.

Idea

I was trying to put it all together today with everything I had and here is a rough draft of the Final piece but the final piece is going to be on a bigger sheet of paper.

However instead of having a blue back I got an old book and I ripped out all the pages and stuck them on to a white sheet, just to tie in the book theme.

carving :)

I got some perspex today and I started carving the images out.  I had to play around with the images on the perspex first to make sure I got all the images onto it properly and to have enough space between each image so I would be able to cut them out easily enough.

Then I just stuck the images to the perspex using masking tape so the image wouldn't move on me.

This is hard to see but here is the telephone box carved out.

Once this was done I then cut all the images out. Firstly I used a Stanley knife to try cut them out but when I was using the knife I found I kept on letting the knife slip and I would cut them image so then I used a scissors, it was so much easier. I then used sandpaper to smooth around the edges. You can see the telephone box much cleared here in this picture.

I have all the images done picked and cut out, for London, Paris and New York though I've done a few images but im only going to use the Big Apple and The statue of liberty for New York, and London im using The telephone box and the Queen and for Paris one french painter and the Eiffel tower. Im going to keep 2 images for each of the cities.

New York
Statue of Liberty, Big Apple and the Skyline

Ireland
GPO with the Spire and a pint of Guinness

London
Black Cab, Big Ben, The Queen and the red telephone box

Paris
The Eiffel Tower and two French painters

Australia
Sydney Opera House and a
kangaroo

I think I am going to leave Tokyo out. Its hard to find an image that represents Tokyo and I want images that people will know directly what city it is and I cant find that for Tokyo. I did a little bit more changing since I last updated as well. I'm going to do a few images for each city and then I'm going to pick out the two that work the best.

I was looking at some of the maps today for the different cities. There all kinda similar.

I took the London tube map and I made my own map. I just used paint. It wasn't as easy as it looked to do . I think I had to start it two or three times before I got it right but I got it done anyway.
